At Shepherd’s Fold Stables in the Lanseria area, we offer a variety of trail ride options to allow visitors to explore our amazing landscape on horseback and we are well equipped to accommodate riders of every level and experience. The stables can accommodate up to 8 riders at a time and each group trail ride is led by an experienced guide. The trails go through the most beautiful routes, through the neighbouring farms, stopping along the way to take in the stunning views of Johannesburg, the Magaliesberg and Cradle of Humankind nearby. We offer 1 hour 1.5 hour and 2 hour long trail rides. Please note that we only have 1-hour trail rides available for Saturday bookings.

Trail Ride Prices

• Pony Rides:
  • R100 for 10 minutes (children up to 6 years)
• A little ride around the farm accompanied by a groom
• R280 per person for 30 minute trail ride
• R450 per person for 1 hour trail ride
• R550 per person for 1.5 hour trail ride
• R650 per person for 2 hour trail ride
  • Relaxing trail rides suitable for beginners or advanced riders, beginners will only be allowed to walk and trot.
• R800 per person for ½ hour lesson plus a 1 hour trail ride
  • Have an instructor teach you the basics before heading out for a relaxing trail ride.

Booking Information

What we require from you for a trail ride:

• Date and Time of the trail ride
• Number of riders (maximum of 8 at a time or the group will be split)
• Your riding experience
• Your height and weight so we can choose suitable horses for you (maximum weight limit of 90 kg)
• Bookings in advance only: Your booking will only be confirmed once we have received the payment.
• Please note if you are late, we will only wait for 15 minutes after your scheduled departure time; after this your booking will be cancelled and not refunded. 
  
  

General Information

• All riders are advised to wear long trousers and low-heeled boots or shoes for comfort/safety.
• Please be at the yard at least 15 minutes before your riding time as we leave promptly at the allocated time. If you are late the ride will still return at the scheduled time and will be cut short.
• If you are more than 15 minutes late then your ride will be cancelled and no refund given.
• There is a weight restriction of 90kg and we do need to know your heights, weights and riding experience to select suitable horses for you.
• Children can join their parents on the trail ride from 8 years and older.
• Our trail ride prices are the same for both adults and children as the horses still do the same work.
• We have handlers for the less experienced riders and children that do not wish to ride the horse on their own. Please indicate when booking if you require this service.

Cancellation Policy:

• We have a strict NO refund policy.
• In the event of rescheduling, the trail needs to be rescheduled at least 48 hours prior.
• In the event of stormy weather, the trail will be moved to a mutually convenient time.
